Try placing a line of spout at the top and plant at the bottom. Then try placing short lines of well right under the spout.

Trippy. I managed to get a continual burn thing going - it rebuilt at the same pace it burnt off.

I'm calling BS on that one. Not for any sizeable amount of time anyway.

Try filling the field with spout, then drawing a spiderweb of 1px plant, then setting it on fire.

It's still going - 5 hours strong now. I haven't had to interfere, which is pretty nifty. Basically I made a grid of sprout, set green at the top and the bottom, let it fill up with water, greened it, then set a fire at one point at random. Didn't even need a torch. The oil is on fire at at 5x, I don't know if that made a difference.

Important bit: The grid formation of the spout must be in a mobius pattern. Afterwards, the barrier between the bubbles formed must be broken ever so slightly - I used random slashes with green. This basically forms several dozen mini containers for the fire/water/green system, self contained and perpetuating.

Ah. I thought you had a single stream feeding a fire. That one just doesn't work. Just having something burn indefinitely isn't hard.

A single stream is difficult - still working on that one.

Don't think it's possible. Rates are too different. I've even tried isolating the stream in a one-pixel corridor.

... I need to get out more.

the one pixel corridor is good, but the problem comes at the green - the rate becomes much to rapid and clogs the water.

Ah! I've got it - the solution was in the problem. Set the water to 5x, set the green on the top, just touching the left side. Set a torch on the right side, and bingo. Perpetual flame.
