What better way to kick off the politics forum than with the political imbroglio du jour.

I just want to know where our spoils of war are. We conquered Iraq fair and square. Where's the plunder?

Truth - inexpensive petrol should be the least of the spoils for America. Canada can get... hell, what does Afghanistan produce? Opium.

That's the point. We haven't gotten any, and I'm slightly miffed.

And why the holink to a wacky conspiracy video? Are the spoils for invading Iraq time-travelling mega-conspiracies? Because that would make a great film.

You know that
1) The American Army Is Unbelievably Badass
2) Iraq/Afghanistan are a bunch of ill-equipped pussies
when friendly-fire is, by far, the primary source of death.

Afganistan was attacked like i've said in so many other relevant topics to prepare the war to Iraq and to control mainly the backyard of Russia. Dont be mistaken that Russia ever stopped to be an opponement of USA.
Especially with Putin, at least in Europe Russia is the number one key of power with all the natural gas it provides us and all the oil.
Now as far as it concerns Iraq, i will go with the cheap gas idea, and i will add something on top of that , 2 facts that keep my mind busy.
Fact number one:
USA's greatest oil imports come from Saudi Arabia. As we all know oil is not infinite. Eventually Saudi Arabia will stop produce the vast amounts of oil USA needs...or maybe Saudi Arabia has stopped already producing those amounts?
Easy targets in the area are Iraq (target down) and a less easy target is Iran.
And now fact number 2. China.
Do you ever imagine why USA needs all that oil for? It is far more than simply using it for its army. Now add a billion country to the party and you will get the big picture. We simply cant "afford" both of them, that's why oil prices have gone nutz and unfortunately will keep rising up.
USA has to store as many strategic resources as possible just in case a war brokes out or something.

That's my 2 cents

those are some pretty big cents..... heavy too.

I'd try to swallow them but I fear what might happen to them on the way out the backdoor

Putin has made it perfectly clear he intends to build a superpower out of the combined forces of Russia, China and India. He stated that it is an effort to bring greater stability to the world, and to compete with the overwhelming economies of NATO and the EU.

And I hope that NATO, at least, will start looking to local resources (like Alaska) and wean the dependency to Saudi Arabia. Because right now they're untouchable, and it sucks for the rest of the world having to put up with their crap.

It is far cheaper to use the Saudi Arabia's resources, after all technically those resources belong to SA so it is not American, rathen than use Alaska's (which will eventually be used when the rest of the world's resources are over).

@luck: Try them with a big bottle of vodka or something ;)

I guess it comes down to a question of whether the political capitol sacrificed is comparable to the money saved. At the moment the savings are good, so it's all good. But with petrol at increased cost in America, at some point it's no longer going to be.

And it's not 'technically' belonging to SA. It does belong to SA - that's the whole problem.
